Laurel Gallagher graduated from Nottingham Trent University in 2000 with a BA (Hons) Fine Art. She worked as an Art teacher from 2003-2011 while studying at the Institute of Education for a PGDip in Art & Design Education.

The Feral State evolved in Laurel’s Art Studio in Perth, Western Australia where she lived from 2011-2013. Since moving to Staffordshire in 2014 Laurel has linked her Feral State concept to social issues of food poverty, health and community cohesion.
