Landscape

“Entangled and suffocated by this sense of physical merging into the elements around one. One could die like this and wonder if it was death” Lawrence Durrell

Laurel is building a visual language that extends beyond the formal aesthetic of landscape painting. Gestural mark making and abstract colours capture her immediate sensory reactions to cold water swimming in wild locations. She expands these studies in her studio, instinctively building loose layers of oil paints that explore the physicality of her body and sense of self merging with a watery landscape.
